To help the adventure enthusiasts coming here from all over the world, Manali also houses Mountaineering Institute. The ultimate goal of this training institute is to help the adventure lovers with proper training so that they could enjoy the activity safely and have memorable moments of their life which they could cherish forever.About ABVIMAS Manali
Manali houses one of the largest training centers for Adventure Sports in entire India. The institute has a hostel where 260 people can be accommodated at a time. The dining hall of the institute has the capacity of 200 people at a time. ABVIMAS also has an auditorium where about 680 people get accommodated at a time. The institute also boasts having modern library, seminar halls and a museum.The institute also has many other training institutes spread all over Himachal Pradesh giving training for adventure sports to interested people. The institute has separate course module for the beginners and the advanced people. According to the skill level and experience respective training course on Mountain sports and water activities are offered to the trainees.
Clothes and other gears are issued to the trainees by the institute and during the training regular communication are maintained to the various base camps through walkie-talkies. Trainings are given by the experienced instructors. Proper rock faces, glaciers and mountain peaks are chosen for imparting training.
History of ABVIMAS
After the independence of India, the first prime minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru used to visit Manali quite often. He liked the natural beauty of Manali and its charm and elegance very much. He took initiative to establish the WHMI in 1961 so that various adventure sports in Manali could be promoted.To promote activities like skiing, skating, mountaineering and camping, the institute was set up and over the years it was named after another former prime minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Ji.
How to reach ABVIMAS Manali
The institute is spread over an area of 20 acres among the forest on the shores of River Beas. It is located only 3 km away from left bank of Beas river.Address of ABVIMAS:
